General Notes: Not a lot known it is said that he originally came from Eltham Kent. This is not true, however he could have at one time worked in Northfleet Kent, which is where his daughter Louisa was born. Certainly it is known that there were members of the family in the Lewisham,Eltham area in the late 1800 and early 1900's. Was a Carter working for Lord Derby in Underriver. The 1881 census shows George aged 53 an Agricultural Labourer living with his wife Emma and two of their children George and John, living in Broad Oak, Seal, Kent. Noted events in his life were: • Census, 1881, Rg11, Piece 0905, Folio 11, Page 16. • Occupation: Farm Carter. George married Emma Knight, daughter of William Knight and Unknown, on 8 Aug 1857 in St Peter & St Paul, Seal, Kent. (Emma Knight was born about 1834 in Chevening, Kent and was christened on 23 Feb 1834 in Chevening, Kent.) |
